Chinese painting has been influenced by Daoism philosophy, which determined that everything has its complementary opposite part in itself. In Chinese brush painting, black ink and white paper are ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’. The brush strokes can be wet or dry, heavy or light, fast or slow, bold and thin. All of these elements are ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’
In China, calligraphy and painting just like twins at birth, which are inseparable. You are able to find Chinese calligraphy on the paintings, it could be simply the artist’s signature, date and place the work been done, or a poem related to the painting. Chinese painting and calligraphy share the same materials and techniques.
